Spencer Yujia Yan is a multi-disciplinary graphic designer specializing in typography, Illustration, branding, video and print. My design approach is intended to combine craft and technology to produce an organic and interesting visual presentation.



Spencer Yujia Yan is a skilled graphic designer, video editor, and illustrator with a strong foundation in painting and pencil drawing. Her work is inspired by her intuition, and she brings a unique perspective to each project she undertakes. Spencer holds a dual BFA degree in Graphic Design from the Communication University of China and New York Institute of Technology.  And a MFA degree in Graphic Design from Boston University. Spencer enjoys hands-on practice and crafting, and she brings this approach to her design work.

Structure+Morphology / 2020
16 Choices
        Throughout the research on the Matrix trilogy theme, the idea of free choice interested me. This project incorporates the idea of freedom of choice; 16 individual fragments, each with 3 versions of different colors and keywords, were provided to the viewers. The keywords/choices are small decisions someone could make in daily life, whether to buy a coffee or a boba or a slushie, and this was meant to keep the process simple and abstract to reflect the complex philosophical issues in this small web-based interactive experience and open a discussion on this issue.

        Physical components are still in progress... The original website of this exclusive project allows viewers to play around with the puzzle and get a unique combination based on their own choices.
